Frequently Asked Questions

Please call or email us if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Every instructor at Entheogen Institute is an expert in their field, and most are practicing facilitators who teach from embodied experience rather than theory alone.

The curriculum goes deep into psilocybin-specific pharmacology and research, nervous system regulation, Internal Family Systems and parts work, trauma-informed care, ethics, Oregon law, and the cultural and indigenous roots of this medicine. The training is 24 weeks and 128 instructional hours, blending live weekly classes on Zoom with self-paced online learning, followed by a 40-hour in-person practicum at a licensed Oregon service center.

Entheogen Institute is licensed by the Oregon Higher Education Coordinating Commission and approved by Oregon Psilocybin Services, so you'll graduate having fulfilled the educational requirements for facilitator licensure in Oregon. We're also a small, woman-owned, BIPOC-owned school with no investors, and we keep every cohort intentionally small so you get personal attention throughout.

Support continues after graduation, too. We run a consultation group specifically for new facilitators seeing their first clients, because the deepest learning happens once you're actually in the work.

The program explores the full spectrum of facilitator education, including:

  • The history and evolution of natural medicine use across Indigenous, traditional, and modern therapeutic contexts
  • Cultural humility, accessibility, and equity in facilitation
  • Foundations of trauma-informed care
  • Ethical decision-making, facilitator responsibilities, and safety protocols in regulated settings
  • Professional boundaries and the non-directive approach to facilitation
  • Core coaching and interpersonal skills for facilitators
  • Neuroscience, pharmacology, and clinical research related to natural medicines
  • Risk awareness and harm reduction strategies
  • Intake, informed consent, and participant preparation
  • Communication and co-regulation skills
  • Legal and procedural aspects of facilitation within service centers
  • Dosage guidance and session documentation
  • Integration frameworks and post-session support
  • Somatic and reflective integration practices
  • Group facilitation theory, planning, and communal integration
  • Self-reflection, supervision, and sustainable facilitator self-care

This curriculum provides a holistic foundation for both the technical and interpersonal dimensions of facilitation, blending scientific understanding with grounded, heart-centered practice.

Our next cycle begins on September 21st, 2026.

Cohort sizes vary, but on average, we have 8-15 students per group. This allows for small, interactive classes that foster meaningful connections and personalized support.

Our program is virtual, allowing students from all around the country to join. The practicum component is in person but is not put on through Entheogen Institute.

Yes, we are a balance of science, sacred plant medicine and ceremony.

Our program is firmly rooted in scientific research, taking a wellness approach to psilocybin facilitation. We delve into the historical evolution of studies extending to the latest research initiatives. We draw directly from reputable research institutions such as  Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Yale, Imperial College of London, utilizing authoritative manuals produced by these institutions as the foundation for our program.

The curriculum is crafted with precision, integrating insights from our state-specific psilocybin program feedback. This feedback loop enhances the relevance and effectiveness of our teaching methods.

In addition to scientific rigor, our program incorporates traditional knowledge, plant medicine ideology, intro to ceremony, intro to energy work and complementary modalities. This holistic approach ensures a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter, enriching the educational experience for our participants.

  • 24-Week Program: Classes are held once a week on Thursdays (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM PST)  via Zoom.

Our program is 128 hours spanned over 24 weeks.

Entheogen Institute offers consultation groups, resume support, and networking opportunities to help graduates connect with professional opportunities.

Yes, the institute fosters connections through consultation groups and community events.

Yes, graduates of our program are fully equipped to meet the licensure requirements for psilocybin facilitation in Oregon. After completing the program, you’ll need to follow your state’s official licensure process to become a certified facilitator.

Our curriculum is approved by both Oregon Psilocybin Services (OPS), qualifying you for licensure in Oregon.

If you live outside Oregon, we recommend checking with your local regulatory agencies, as legal psilocybin programs are still emerging and vary by state. Our team is happy to help you explore how our program may align with future licensure in your area.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old, hold a high school diploma or equivalent, and be able to pass a criminal background check in accordance with state licensing requirements. Beyond these minimums, Entheogen Institute looks for individuals who are emotionally grounded, psychologically stable, and ready to commit approximately six hours per week for 24 weeks. Students should demonstrate reliable communication, professionalism, humility, and a genuine willingness to learn within a non-directive model of facilitation that emphasizes client autonomy.

Admission also requires completion of the full EI Admissions Process, which includes submitting an application and participating in a short interview if invited. We welcome applicants from diverse professional backgrounds — such as coaches, therapists, healthcare professionals, bodyworkers, and holistic practitioners — as well as those beginning a new path who show readiness for this work.

No. Our program is firmly grounded in the best practices of psilocybin administration, adopting a non-directive, client-centered, trauma-informed approach to care. This distinctive model sets us apart from traditional counseling, psychology, or psychotherapy approaches, which typically involve years of extensive education. The State of Oregon, informed by groundbreaking research and the recommendations of the Oregon Psilocybin Advisory Board, has chosen this model as the gold standard.

Our licensed program is designed to equip you with all the essential knowledge to embark on a successful journey in this dynamic field. From the moment you join our program, you’ll be embraced by a supportive community that will guide you every step of the way as you thrive in this new and exciting realm of work.

Our student body represents a diverse range of backgrounds, each with a unique history and story. What unites them is a passionate commitment to helping others and a shared sense of calling to engage in this meaningful work at this particular moment.

We currently offer a limited number of partial scholarships based on need.

  • Oregon: A 30-hour observation-only practicum at licensed service centers.
  • Colorado: A 40-hour practicum, including observation, assisted facilitation, and independent facilitation, along with 50 hours of professional consultation.
  • Practicum fees are separate and determined by the service center or facility.

We only work with Psilocybin in this course.

Our approach incorporates non-substance methods to access alternative states of consciousness in addition to psilocybin. These methods include psychedelic breath-work, spiritual journeys, meditation, sound healing,  movement, and drumming.

Oregon service centers are now open, providing our students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the magical setting where they will later work.  Students have the chance to practice facilitation techniques on each other before stepping into sessions with clients.

No.  While we do value your experience in other plant medicines, they are different, and the state does not allow us to count those hours toward your practicum hours.

Not everyone is a good fit for psilocybin services, and safety is paramount in our program. Students receive comprehensive training in screening, legalities, rules, regulations, and key risk factors. The curriculum delves into the nuanced understanding of “green, yellow, and red flags” specific to psilocybin services. Throughout the program, numerous opportunities for hands-on screening practice are provided, allowing participants to refine their skills and apply theoretical knowledge in practical scenarios.

We foster a culture of connection, unity, uplifting, growth, respect, learning, support, and love.  We are a trauma informed program, and we utilize best practices in online learning, adult learning, and psilocybin therapy.  We welcome and celebrate diversity.
